FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Black Long Covid Experience Launches for Black Americans Impacted by Long COVID.

[Poughkeepsie, NY, November 21] — The Black Long Covid Experience (BLCE) is proud to announce the launch of a dedicated hub offering education, advocacy, and essential resources for Black Americans living with Long COVID. Through virtual training courses for media, health non-profits, and medical organizations, the initiative promotes thoughtful and effective engagement with Black Long COVID communities. It will also address the unique challenges faced by Black Americans, including navigating historical health disparities and managing the financial and emotional impact of Long COVID.

BLCE aims to provide:

  • Educational Tools: Affordable training courses – in-person and virtual – with reliable information to understand and manage long COVID symptoms, research, and policy initiatives.

  • Advocacy Support: Guidance on securing equitable healthcare and disability rights.

  • Resources and Connections: A supportive network for shared experiences and strategies for living with long COVID.

  • Reading and Writing Materials and Long COVID Posties: personal writing tools along with postcards specifically created for Long Covid communities to share with their friends, family, and caregivers.

By centering the voices and needs of Black Americans, BLCE creates a safe space for empowerment and visibility. It also seeks to amplify advocacy efforts for equity in medical care and workplace accommodations.

"Black Americans with long COVID have been relatively excluded from access to information to help them receive medical care that make recovery even more challenging," Chimére L. Sweeney, director of the program said. "The Black Long Covid Experience is still growing. However, it’s more than a resource—it’s a lifeline for those seeking understanding, connection, and support. I wish it was available to me nearly five years ago when I first became ill."

The Black Long COVID Experience invites individuals and organizations to join in building a stronger, more inclusive community. For more information, visit www.blacklongcovidexperience.com or contact info@blacklongcovidexperience.com

The Black Long Covid Experience’s Tap-In

  • The Black Long Covid Experience is proud to announce its consulting partnerships with two important Long Covid projects.

Along with MEAction and the Minnesota Department of Health’s Long Covid Program, we will provide equity and inclusion support to Long Covid residents and health organizations in the state.

We have also been added on to the Long Covid Patient Advisory Board with BioVie Pharmaceuticals.

  • With news that Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is slated to become the new Director of federal agency, Health and Human Services (HHS), under the new Trump administration, many Long Covid communities are fearful. Black people living with Long Covid often become invisible when federal changes are made.

However, receiving equitable health care for you is still possible. And BLCE can show you how.
